Musician and Co-Founder of Agbogblo Shine Initiative, Joseph Awuah Darko, best known as Okuntakinte has reworked a $1000 Louis Vuitton block heeled pump with burnt electrical waste from Africa’s largest destination for locally generated automobile and electronic scrap collected from across the city of Accra, Agbogbloshi. His initiative, Agbogblo Shine, is known to encourage people who work at the dump site to re-purpose waste into creative pieces.
To the ordinary man, e-waste is supposed to be reduced, reuse and recycled, but to Okuntakinte the art god, it is an opportunity for him to turn toxic e-waste into beauty and art and he didn’t limit it to making only sculptures but he extended it to fashion with the aim of conveying the message that, the fashion industry is the second largest polluter.
The Louis Vuitton Rodeo Queen Monogram Leather Runway Pump is seen on his Instagram page with naked cable wires been converted into an extra accessory, giving the pump a whole new look. The wires certainly got the best of the pump. We hope Louis Vuitton will look at ways of modifying this project for the masses, who are lovers of Vintage Fashion. Good job there Okuntakinte!!
